A Look Into Apparel Manufacturers Taking Forward Startups In The Garments Industry In India

Apparel manufacturers are the unsung heroes behind clothing lines and garments manufacturers. While it is assumed that all brands manufacture their own products, it is seldom the case. Most brands either use white label manufacturers or private label manufacturing to save production costs. So, let’s take a look at apparel manufacturers, what they do, and how they help the garments industry grow.

The question is quite simple, but there is quite a long answer behind it. Apparel manufacturers are businesses that do not sell their products through retail outlets, i.e. to the general public. They take on the manufacturing requirements for brands and sell it to that brand. For apparel manufacturers, the market performance of the product doesn’t have any effect on their earnings. Their responsibility ends when the products have been delivered to the client. There are mainly two types of apparel manufacturers namely, white label and private label manufacturers. Let’s take a look at their differences and what they do.

  1. White Label Manufacturers

White label manufacturers are non-exclusive manufacturers. They work on orders of any size for anyone they choose. They have a dedicated manufacturing unit and offer manufacturing services for select garments and styles to anyone that would work with them. There is no exclusivity when you work with white label manufacturers.

If you are ordering a t-shirt from them in a certain style, they are under no obligation to not sell the same to other brands if they order. Similarly, they often control the design and the look of the product as they work for mass production of garments. There is a misconception that white label manufacturers have bad quality control, but that’s not always the case.

If you work with the top white label manufacturers, you will not have any problems with quality control with your products.

  1. Private Label Manufacturers

Private label manufacturers are exclusive manufacturers. These companies work exclusively for brands. Mostly the major brands around the world that you have heard of all use private label manufacturing. These manufacturers work on custom designs on a bulk level and they do not sell the same designs to any other brands.

These manufacturers are very stringent with their quality control and ensure that only the best of the best manufacturing practices are used. They are also more expensive for their services but they can certainly help you create a niche and a place in the market.

  1. Small Order Manufacturers

This is another type of apparel manufacturer that is especially important for the garment industry startups. If you want to launch a new product in the market, it is not wise to go for bulk manufacturing from the get-go. You need a small quantity of the product to test its marketability. And that’s exactly what small order manufacturers help you do. They take small orders and ensure you get a good understanding of the product and its manufacturing cost before moving on to mass production.

Apparel manufacturers are everywhere, and they work with brands to help them make the beautiful clothes you see everywhere. So, if you want to start a clothing line and don’t have the budget to make your own manufacturing hub, you can work with any of these apparel manufacturers to start your business.
